Basic Tools for Arts Fundraising

This workshop will advise artists and arts organizations of fundamental tools required for presenting themselves to potential donors. A presentation will be followed by a brief writing exercise to develop and review organizational mission statements and individual artists' statements, the first steps towards building creative asset development.

Launching an International Music Career for the African Artist presented

This workshop will show musicians how to "package" themselves for international performance opportunities and commercial success. SOMI will discuss the fundamentals of putting together a professional musician's press kit that will help you get the gig! From writing a "band bio" to selecting promotional photographs, to including market-specific music samples, SOMI will also discuss the challenges and advantages of being an African artist in an international music marketplace.

Intellectual Property Rights for the African Artist

Learn fundamental information to protect your creative ideas and artistic practice both locally and globally. Ogunyemi will discuss artists' legal rights to content acquisition and licensing of motion picture, television, new media and other content production, financing, distribution and exhibition. He will also cover music and publishing industry contracts, commercial endorsements and the importance of establishing associations that protect the intellectual property of African artists.

Your Art, Your Business

Rushemeza's workshop will encompass short and long-term career planning and development for the visual artist. She will cover such topics as creating your five-year art business plan, career goals, and creating your promotional material such as getting good photos or other visual documentation of your work, biography, artist statement, resume (CV), and networking and identifying and increasing your potential client base in Rwanda and possibly abroad.

This workshop introduces free, easy-to-use tools to promote your Organization on the Web. A practical hands-on workshop demonstrating how artists and arts organizations can reach global audiences and build community using low cost and free online tools and techniques. Participants will have an opportunity to see how online publishing tools can be used to set up and share Blogs, photos, artwork and music on the Web. There will also be a demonstration of the value of joining online social and business networks to showcase your work, network and build audiences.
