WCO Center Selected for Project Diversity Queens
The World Culture Open Center at Korea Village in Queens, New York, was recently selected as one of the 13 venues for Project Diversity Queens. The event, which will take place at galleries and alternative art spaces throughout the borough, will feature scores of local artists in a celebration of the diversity and talent that make Queens unique.
Over 80 artists, representing nearly as many different cultural backgrounds, will display their pieces at various galleries over the course of three months, from September to November, 2007. In addition to showcasing the multimedia work of so many skilled artists, the event will include parties and workshops where visitors of all ages can enjoy themselves and learn about an assortment of artistic practices. The event has drawn wide publicity and support, and is sponsored by The New York Times, the Bloomberg Foundation, and the Queens Council on the Arts.
Project Diversity Queens aligns perfectly with WCO’s mission, in that it aims to break down barriers between cultures and neighborhoods to make art accessible to all, regardless of social class, race, or prior exposure to the arts. The event will encourage visitors both from Queens and from other boroughs to explore neighborhoods and cultures that they might otherwise not experience, and to support the burgeoning art scene and commercial districts of Queens.
The selection of WCO Center as a participating gallery is an honor that attests to the Center’s favorable reputation within the Queens community. Special events that will take place exclusively at the Center, such as the Opening Reception on September 8 and the Artist Talk on September 13th, will treat a wide audience to enlightening experiences that reaffirm the very reasons for the Center’s existence. WCO feels privileged to be a part of the event, and happy to be partnering with the like-minded organizations and individuals that will make it a success. |
