Gala Reception for Project Diversity Queens (PDQ)
World Culture Open and the WCO Center at Koreavillage in Queens hosted a memorable gala reception as part of Project Diversity Queens (PDQ) on September 20th, 2007. PDQ, which was organized by the Queens Council on the Arts, selected 13 official venues for showcasing the artistic talent in New York City’s largest borough, and the WCO Center at Koreavillage was among them.
PDQ provided a valuable occasion for the 87 artists who were selected out of thousands of artists in Queens to experience the concept and meaning of their work within the larger context of the borough and New York City. The ten artists who were featured in the show at WCO Center at Koreavillage, which was entitled “Melting Pot,” were selected because their work relates to the multiculturalism and pluralism of the various ethnic and cultural enclaves of Queens.
The reception was well-attended with over 250 attendees who enjoyed the diversity of world cultures through art, presentations, and food. In addition to artists and art enthusiasts, the event was attended by government officials, organization representatives and media. Everyone at the reception was able to see the power that culture has to instill peace and harmony.
Other official sites selected for PDQ were the Queens Museum of Art, the Queens Library, and Queensboro Hall. The WCO Center at Korea Village was honored to be a part of such an impressive list of venues.
PDQ will continue at all 13 locations until the end of November 2007. For more information, visit the website of the WCO Center at Koreavillage at www.kvopencenter.org or of the Queens Council on the Arts at www.queenscouncilarts.org. |
