About WCO Centers |
A WCO Center is a space provided by a goodwill donor for the purpose of allowing people from the community to freely come and use the space for diverse artistic, cultural and health-related activities, as well as community service.
WCO Centers are like open public spaces where any person can freely walk in to breathe, rest, enjoy themselves and meet people. WCO Centers resemble a community center that serves local people by facilitating and invigorating cultural activities and communication among members within the local area.
WCO Centers serve as a channel for more vigorous cultural exchange within and between communities. Once a network is established, the Centers will also bring local communities to a larger global neighborhood where everyone can share humanity¡¯s cultural traditions and treasures.
Spaces for WCO Centers are donated by local individuals with an interest in promoting cultural activities, thus enhancing the community¡¯s wellbeing. Donors can set the terms of use for their space, offering it either permanently or temporarily and setting the times of use throughout the week, or simply provide the space and let users determine the schedule.
WCO Centers empower communities because programs are coordinated by local volunteers who donate time, talent, knowledge, professional skills, money, and other resources. Programs are designed by those who use the Center, according to unique needs in each community.

The Impact of WCO Center Movement |
- In all cities and towns there are spaces that are not currently in use. WCO Centers encourage the use of those spaces in a more effective and creative way that benefit the whole community.
- There are many people, small groups and organizations that are looking for a place to gather and hold activities. WCO Centers make it possible to provide them with an actual space for their activities.
- WCO Centers enhance opportunities for different groups of a community to meet and communicate with each other and thus build a sound sense of community together.
- Through WCO Centers different sectors of a community will mutually benefit each other.

Three Areas of Activities |
CREATIVE ARTS
WCO Centers can be used for a variety of needs, both group and individual, in all genres of the Creative Arts, such as rehearsal and performance space for theatre, dance and music; room for conducting workshops; gallery space for visual arts exhibitions; a place to hold film or lecture series; and a venue for open-mic readings. The potential of a WCO Center to support the Creative Arts is confined only by the users¡¯ imaginations.
HOLISTIC WELLBEING/ HEALING ARTS
Meditation practice, yoga, community exercise programs for seniors, panels and discussions on alternative medicine, classes in Reiki, acupuncture or massage, information sessions on diet for pregnant teens, martial arts lessons - these are just a few examples of how a WCO Center can be used to promote the teaching and practice of a holistic approach to health through the ever expanding arena of the Healing Arts
HUMANITARIAN SERVICE
Every community needs a gathering place both to offer and receive the kinds of services that are becoming less available in our fragmented society. Services like a neighborhood food program, English classes for immigrants, a "town hall" forum for community discussion, free after-school programs for low-income children, or a local book exchange can all take place at WCO Centers. Humanitarian Service includes those activities focused on contributing to the wellbeing of a community and, by extension, to society as a whole.
