In 2004, WCO staged the first World Culture Open Global Festival. The event offered an invaluable opportunity to explore and witness a simple truth: through cultural exchange and communication we can overcome the fears and prejudices that once separated us and create a world where philanthropic service prevails.
Inaugurated in New York City, the 2004 WCO Global Festival was designed to be an international celebration to honor artistic and cultural traditions and their pivotal roles in building intercultural harmony and promoting the holistic approach to wellbeing.
After beginning in New York City, the Festival moved to Seoul with a spectacular display of cultural artistry. The 8-day international event brought together traditional dancers and musicians, artists, holistic arts practitioners, non-governmental organizations, United Nations secretariats, ambassadors, Ministers of Culture, and enthusiastic audience members to exchange and dialogue as a global community.
