Rebuilding CULTURE in Banda Aceh, Indonesia |
|
|
| |
In response to the natural disaster that struck the shores of Indonesia and much of South and Southeast Asia, World Culture Open in partnership with Nature's Path and the Aceh Cultural Institute worked to provide critical cultural reconstruction and rehabilitation to needy communities in Banda Aceh that was affected by the Tsunami.
Sponsored by a generous grant from Nature's Path*, World Culture Open worked with the Aceh Cultural Institute in Banda Aceh and UNESCO and UNDP representatives in Jakarta to support the development of cultural rehabilitation programs within the Banda Aceh region.
Aware of the cultural needs that were particularly apparent post-tsunami, The Aceh Cultural Institute was offering communities cultural, educational and social programming in an effort to maintain and preserve the threatened cultural life and traditions of Banda Aceh.
In August 2005, World Culture Open's Secretary General Dr. Grace Lee visited the Aceh Cultural Institute in Indonesia to begin building this critical partnership.
